FAQs
(fairly astute questions)
How
much is this gonna cost me?
Web design is like any other product you might purchase — you get
what you pay for. Sturty has worked on everything from the basic, no-frills
$500 start-up site to the $1 million-plus corporate full-Flash, e-commerce
site. We'll meet with you and give you a free estimate once we understand
the scope of the project and your budget.
What about web hosting and domain name registration?
Hosting for most sites we build and host is $125 per year and includes
500 MB of web space and 20 GB monthly transfer and 5 e-mail addresses.
There are plenty of other hosting options out there, but we think this
is a pretty good deal. Domain name registration is $20 per year, but there
are better long-term deals available such as a 10-year registration for
$80.
How do I make changes and updates to my site?
We don't recommend you do it yourself unless you're comfortable working
with html and/or image editing software. If you are, then by all means,
have at it. By having Sturty manage your site, minor changes such as editing
copy, or swapping out a photo are done quickly and inexpensively. Sign
up for Sturty's site management plan to save yourself time and hassles.
How do I get files and photos to you?
We prefer all files to be digital. We're not into scanning stuff. You
can either e-mail us, or burn your data to a CD and send it to us via
snail mail. For photography, high-res jpegs, fresh out of your digital
camera, work best. We can also publish many types of movies and videos
to your web site.
How can I increase traffic to my site?
Well, advertising helps, but there are other cheaper ways. We register
all of our clients' sites on the major search engines, like Google and
Yahoo and use metatags and keywords, but this is no guarantee you'll get
more traffic. One of the best free ways to generate traffic is to develop
partnerships with other web sites. Trade links with complementary businesses
or trade groups. The more sites your site is affiliated with, the more
frequently it will pop higher up in the search results.
Starting an e-mail campaign is another great way to boost traffic, but
no spam, please.
What's Flash? Why do I need it?
Flash is our favorite web graphics app. It's used to build 3D product
displays, rich media presentations, animations, movies, motion graphics,
interactive sites and so much more. You may not need it, but if you want
to make a big impact with a rich media online ad, or build a real kickass
web site that will be the envy of your neighbors and competitors, Flash
is the answer. See our Flash project portfolio
and our Flash site for examples.
